Dressmaking skills course

This series of dressmaking workshops are aimed at beginners wanting to learn all the basic skills to make clothes or at those who have some sewing experience but need help with some basic techniques. Our tutor, Tracey Holland is an experienced tutor with over 20 years of experience in the fashion industry teaching pattern cutting, garment manufacture and bespoke fitting. 

Workshop 1 - learn how to read and understand a pattern and how to adapt it to fit you. You will also learn basic cutting and preparation techniques, including the best method of overlocking raw fabric edges.

Workshop 2 - explore the different techniques for seams and hems and the best ones to use for different patterns/ fabric as well as how to place and shape darts to ensure that you get a perfectly fitted garment

Workshop 3 – you will be taught a range of different techniques for fitting zips and which ones suit different garment/ fabric types. Learn how to create and structure a perfect

Workshop 4 – you will focus on pleating and gathering and how to make sure that you get evenly spaced neat gathers or pleats
